Antiqvvs Magazine was founded in January 2019 by Dr Mark Merrony, former Editor-in-Chief of Minerva Magazine, founding Director of Mougins Museum of Classical Art, and a Fellow at Wolfson College, University of Oxford. In addition to Dr Merrony, Dr Jennifer Chi and Dr Michael Bennett, both specialists in Graeco-Roman art and culture and museology, complete Antiqvvs' editorial committee.
Its focus is educational, showcasing ancient art and related civilisations of the Graeco-Roman world, Asia, the Americas, and Oceania.
Its mission is to disseminate an eclectic mixture of cultural knowledge in an accessible way, to enrich and enlighten a broad audience, from lay enthusiasts to schools and universities, and to enhance and complement the interests of museum curators and private collectors in key areas. This is achieved with a balance of strong, informative features and reviews written by international experts and journalists, augmented by a powerfully visual layout that features the most accomplished artistic objects from both public and private collections.
The magazine is committed to an independent stance concerning ethical issues in the sphere of ancient art and remains objective and balanced in its approach and opinions, its philosophy grounded in the freedom of thought expressed through creative writing on current issues in a rational manner. The magazine also encourages a dialogue with its readers and welcomes comment through letters to the editor.
